Hi, our names
are Sharon Riegel and Charlene Harris in the picture
below with the president of Usborne Books at Home,
Randall White.
We have been
representing Usborne Books for more than twelve years. It
has turned out to be more fun, fulfilling and
financially profitable then we ever dreamed.
When we
started this business we were both homeschooling our
children. We each have three children, now ranging in ages
17 through 24. It all started when Charlene began praying for a part-time job
to supplement her family's income. She needed income, but didn't want to
give up homeschooling.
Sharon's sister
introduced us to Usborne Books and we knew this was a
wonderful opportunity. We have to admit that we were
both put off by the home party scene, but the books were
so wonderful. Didn't our kids need access to ALL of
these books?
With a little
hesitation we signed up. Why not? It's was a no-lose
proposition. The worst that could happen was that we
would have a wonderful library for our kids. Within a
week we had our business kits, complete with sample
books and business supplies. We scheduled our first home
shows. What about our "home party" anxieties? They
disappeared in no time. We didn't know a lot, but we
knew these books were great and we loved them. We just
showed the books and they sold themselves.
People were
buying to benefit their kids. Their only problem was
that they couldn't buy as much as they wanted. Thus, a
home party snow ball began. We had more home show
bookings then we could do. We recruited others who
wanted to get in on the fun and within our incentive
periods of 12 weeks, we each promoted to supervisor.
Our families are involved in our
businesses. Even little ones can label catalogs and help
mom sort books. We don't have those little ones anymore,
but our kids are still really
involved, mostly on the receiving end. Usborne
money has paid for college tuition at several
different universities, as well as a wedding and many other
necessities of the teenage years and beyond.
Our husbands
are our constant support and encouragers.
This business
has changed our lives. Not just financially, although
that is certainly nice. But in more important ways such
as the making of good friends, developing business
skills, conquering the anxiety of speaking before small
and large groups, keeping up with computer technology to
benefit our businesses, and the list goes on.
Sharon has
moved four times in ten years. She has
successfully re-started her business each time.
She found her business an asset in making friends and
becoming familiar with the community. The business has
given us more opportunities to see each other as we
have wonderful tax deductible work vacations together by
finding educational booths to do in exotic locations
like Marco Island, FL,
and Hilton Head, S.C. We also do lesser known locations,
especially if we have consultants in the area who could
use the support.
There are
lots of different types of home businesses out there.
But to find one that benefits children and families and
really the future of our country through education, is a
real blessing.
Check out our Dream
Builder team. It is growing always and we would love to have
you become part of it.
