Convention 2007 By Debra Wright, Dallas Area, TX
I came away from convention ’07 with many exciting new ideas as always! The workshops were filled to the max with helpful information and tools to help me grow my business. The general sessions with Traci Bild and Dr. Titzer were enlightening and refreshing. Peter Usborne talked about how our books are almost magical to children. I think he is almost magical himself. I’m so excited about the new titles we received and those yet to come! How thrilling to be among the first anywhere to see brand new titles and to have Mr. Usborne himself present them. And, as I’ve told some on my team, one of my favorite parts about convention is seeing the friends I’ve made since starting Usborne who live all over the country and making new friends who I’ll look forward to seeing again next year. There seemed to be one recurring theme for me personally at this year’s convention -- one idea that I’ve known and embraced from the very beginning, but which in the past year has become somewhat blurred in my vision of what Usborne means to me and why I do it. Of course I want to, and am, building a lucrative, successful home business, but there’s something very special and unique about this business – the lives it impacts. Usborne books really do change lives and at this year’s convention I heard many stories of exactly how they are doing so. Children who have struggled with reading are becoming not good readers, but great readers because of our books. Children in other parts of the world who don’t have good books are getting not only good books, but the VERY BEST books and their lives are being changed. Children who can’t afford to buy new books are able to get our books for FREE with Reach for the Stars and it’s changing their lives! Children who are good readers are more successful in all of their educational subjects; I know that for a fact from my teaching days. Dr. Titzer reiterated it, but I’ve seen it first hand. If you help a child become a better reader, you help him become a better student. If you help him become a better student you help him have a better life beyond school. That child can become whatever he wants!!! And WE have a part in that! How incredible! |
